Despite the name Hugterheide, you walk mostly through forests. Coniferous forests were planted here to hold back the drifting sand. Deciduous forests are still present, and the managers of Brabants Landschap are in the process of transitioning to a forest of summer oaks and birches. This not only provides more variety for the hiker, but also benefits the birds, such as the nuthatch, yellowhammer and black tit.
