Walk 5.65 km past 8 monuments in the village of Ospel: the Peel monument, De Korenbloem windmill and the war memorial.

Monuments Walk Ospel

This 5.65-kilometre walk takes you through the village of Ospel, where you'll come across no fewer than eight monuments that together tell the story of this Peel village. On Aerthijsplein you'll find the bronze Peel Monument and the Peel-Denkmal, paying tribute to the area's peat-cutting history and the unique Peel landscape. Nearby, the monument to Van Thuijl honours a century of postal carriers from Ospel.

Following Klaarstraat, you'll pass the charming roadside chapel from 1907 and the memorial to Pierre van Nieuwenhoven, co-founder of the local farmers' association. At the cemetery you'll find the striking Sacred Heart sculpture group from 1926 and the war memorial honouring the 26 residents of Ospel who lost their lives in the Second World War. Along the way, it's also worth pausing at the wall plaque on Waatskamp, commemorating chaplain Jean Adams.

The highlight of the route is windmill De Korenbloem, built in 1869. After decades of decline it was beautifully restored in 1989 and is still in operation today. A lovely walk for discovering the history and character of Ospel.
