Forest Hills
Surrounding the juniper forest is a shell of about 200 hectares, consisting mainly of planted coniferous forest. Through careful forest management, more variety is being created here by adding hardwoods. This contributes to a more diverse and resilient forest. Besides the dense forest and juniper bushes, you will find active drifting sand in a few places. These are dynamic areas where sand movements still occur, a rare phenomenon in the Netherlands. On the north side of the Boshuizer Mountains, the forest transitions into low-lying wet meadows known as Op den Buus. This transition zone adds an additional ecological dimension to the area.
The Boshuizerbergen has Natura 2000 status, which means it is one of the best protected natural areas in Europe. This status highlights the importance and unique value of this area on a European level. Come and discover the versatility of the Boshuizerbergen - from the vast juniper bushes and varied forests to the rare shifting sands and wet meadows.
